You can choose to create either a Mage or Warrior, male or female from the character creation page. Upon on entering the game you may change your character from a Softcore (SC) toon into a Hardcore (HC) toon by talking to James.

Softcore

Can accumulate up to 10 saves.
Pre Arch max their base stats at 50 points.
Post Arch Seyan max base 100
Post Arch Mage & Warrior max base 115.

Hardcore

Can not accumulate saves and receives more negative experience per death.
HC toon pre Arch max their base stats at 55 points and level faster.
Post Arch Seyan max base 107
Post Arch Mage & Warrior max base 122.
